Abackus Communications Inc. has been in the television and media business since 1980.


We've provided post production and editing services on the AVID, ProTools, Final Cut, and currently Davinci Resolve systems. We work on Theatrical commercials, documentaries, music videos, corporate projects, television drama series, reality programs, movies of the week and animated features. Our other services include: writing pitches, proposals and scripts, scheduling, negotiating contracts, hiring facilities, managing staff, supervising sound mixes, ADR, web design, and social media.

Barry Backus is the founder of Abackus. His career includes hundreds of projects for television networks and independent production companies.  He is a producer, editor, post production supervisor and has occupied executive positions in both picture and sound. 

He is a member of the Vancouver Post Alliance, the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Televison and IATSE 891

In 1987 he was fortunate to be the co-editor on the Oscar Award winning best feature documentary "Artie Shaw - Time Is All You've Got".​

Recently Barry produced three programs for CTV's prime time network documentary series W5: Farm Troubles, From the Heart, and A Day to Remember
